Day 86 - June 10, 2008
Today we started out with our usual walk on the trails around the campground. Then we drove south on our sightseeing tour. Our first stop was Port Orford Lifeboat Station Museum. We hiked a trail down to the cliffs and also where they used to launch the lifeboats. The museum wasn't open but we did see a 36' lifeboat that was used during the rescues. Then we drove down to Gold's Beach to see where the Rogue river enters the Pacific. Talk about churning water. We don't know how boats go from the river to the ocean. We were witnessing an incoming tide, so maybe they have to wait for an outgoing tide. I can't tell you enough how beautiful Oregon is. These citizens are very good stewards of the land and waterways. A couple other different things about Oregon - no state sales tax, no self-serve gas stations, and there are a heck of a lot of men with long pony tails. Quite a liberal environmental state.
Hope you aren't getting tired of the Oregon coast pictures but they are just so awesome.
Our camp site at Cape Blanco State Park, Oregon. Behind those massive trees is the ocean. The trees are so dense that is it like a rain forest as it is wet and full of ferns and very little sunlight. Then you walk threw them and you are on the cliffs at the incredible ocean.

A great picture - this would be a wonderful shot for a Father's Day frame - check out the Ernest Hemingway look
