Day 55- May 10, 2008
Today was our last day at the majestic Grand Canyon so we tried to make the best of it. We started with the green shuttle bus and visited Yaki Point and Pipe Creek Vista. Then we went to the El Tovar hotel for a leisurely and luxurious lunch to celebrate Frank's Bright Angel trail hike. The rest of the day was spent driving on the Desert View Drive and stopping at all the points and views to saturate ourselves with the magic of the Grand Canyon. Stops along the way included Grandview Point, Moran Point, Tusayan Ruin and Museum, Lipan Point, Navajo Point and Desert View. I only wish the pictures would do justice to the wonders of this place but the pollution really did not give a clear view of the wonders of these various places. I leave this magical place with the wish that all of you can see the "big hole in the ground". This is truly a special, spiritual and magical place.
PS - As we have journeyed throughout the Grand Canyon we have encountered more foreign languages than American. Thank goodness the eastern Europeans, French, Germans and Asians are coming over the fuel our economy!!!
El Tovar Hotel - this is the jewel of Grand Canyon hotels. It is the park's main man-made wonders. Built by Hopi craftsmen in 1905 of native stone and ponderosa pine logs, it is considered the crown jewel of all the other national park lodges, offering edge-of-the-world views and the best food in the park.
